Using the navigation

For those, who are planning to use/deploy a desktop grid infrastructure, the navigation section helps to find out which scenarios or combination of software components and tools will be able to serve the requirements.

The navigation contains 4 questions about

  1. the type of resources the planned desktop grid will utilise
  2. the way of feeding the desktop grid site with workunits
  3. the alternatives for automatic transfer of job among grid infrastructures
  4. the type of application and its porting alternatives

Based on the answers for the questions, there will be a recommendation regarding scenarios or tools.

Here is a quick how to use:

  1. If you are planning to setup a desktop grid site and feed it through CLI or GUI tools
    1. answer the question on computational resources
    2. answer the question on workunit generation
    3. based on the combination of the two answers, implement the recommended scenario
  2. If you are planning to implement an automatic transfer among different grid infrastructures
    1. answer the question on bridging alternatives
    2. based on your answer, implement the recommended scenario
  3. If you want to deploy an application to your desktop grid site
    1. answer the question on application porting to decide which tool may help you porting your application (note: there are tools which let you execute your application without porting)
  4. You can finish the navigation

Here is a summary of recommended scenarios and tools based on the combination of the answers given to the first 2 questions on computational resources and on workunit generation.
